Everything Will Work Out for the Best

The cliche phrase of “everything will work out for the best” is arguably inaccurate. The phrase is well intended. It certainly can give someone a moment of comfort when they have experienced a setback, a disappointment, or even a small tragedy. However, it is really not addressing the issue. The issue at hand is the individual is experiencing something undesirable. This undeniable experience is out of their control. It can cause them heartache, loneliness, pain, or even deep grief. But it will all work out for the best...right?

Lets be honest, not everything works out for the best. There are injustices in the world. There are children starving in Africa, there are individuals that will never have the opportunity of marriage, and there are people that will always suffer from crippling ailments. To sum it up, “Life is unfair.” Though for us to fulfill our purpose in life does it need to be fair? No.

What is the purpose in life? Our purpose in life is to prepare to return to God’s presence. While preparing to return to live with God we will experience great joy. Preparing to live with God does not mean we are exempt from opposition, it merely means we are are increasing the probability of experiencing happiness. We need to experience joy and misery to be able to properly prepare to live with God. Lehi taught it best when he said, “there needs to be opposition in all things.” Without opposition we would never grow. We would never develop the needed qualities to be able to return to God's presence. So, though it hurts to say it, “life needs to sometimes suck and it sometime does.” So, next time someone tells you everything will work out for the best. Know that they are wrong, dead wrong. But yet again, they are right if they are making reference to after life. For God will give us our justice.
